George Gersema is the CEO, Chairman and co-founder of Employers Resource, one of the largest Professional Employer Organizations (PEO’s) operating in all 50 states. An innovator at heart, George was an early implementer of the co-employment model, which allows Employers Resource to assume the administrative costs and responsibilities of its clients. As a result, the company offers health care plans, wellness programs and other benefits normally out-of-reach for most customers and their employees.
A long-time advocate of health care that treats causes of conditions vs. medicating symptoms, George Gersema is also the President and Founder of Integrative Health Consultants (IHC). This innovative health and wellness company is the first in the nation to help people: 1) know health risks by detecting conditions early, 2) mitigate health risks with personalized health care research, and 3) manage health risks by reducing or eliminating the use of prescription drugs and unnecessary surgical interventions. The program, called My Health Roadmap, was created out of a strong personal desire to bring back something we’ve lost over the years – true wellness and genuine healing.
One of the key components of this program is My Health Toolbox, which provides participants with a confidential report identifying health issues, treatment advice and physician referrals. The report is unique to each participant, and based on the results of a comprehensive set of tests, including pH, a blood test which monitors 48 different characteristics, and a thorough health-risk assessment. Company’s that offer My Health Toolbox to their employees receive aggregate reports detailing conditions that affect their employees and how these conditions impact their bottom line in terms of sick leave, absenteeism and productivity.
Another innovation of IHC are the “Centers of Excellence”, which are world leaders in treating serious procedures with less or even non-invasive solutions. Managed by nationally recognized physicians, these centers provide the best possible treatments available for breast and prostate cancer, back, knee and hip pain, and gall bladder health. Plan participants diagnosed with one of these conditions are offered the opportunity for treatment at a Center of Excellence, where the interventions are completed right the first time and the patient receives 100% coverage. IHC plans on adding at least 10 more Centers of Excellence by December 2010.
Recognized for his professional achievements and passion, George Gersema has held leadership positions throughout the PEO industry and served on national trade association boards. He was a founder of the Professional Administrative and Co-Employers (PACE) association, where he served as President and is a current member of the Board of Directors. George is very active in the formulation of integrative health care legislation at the state and national level, has published numerous trade journal articles and is a frequent speaker at industry events.
